Michael joined Georgetown University as Chief Investment Officer in June 2011 and oversees the university’s investment portfolios, including its endowment and retirement plan. In addition, Michael coordinates the university’s Committee on Investments and Social Responsibility.
Prior to arriving at Georgetown, Michael served as the Chief Investment Officer for the University System of Maryland Foundation, where he started the Investment Office in January 2003. At USMF, he was responsible for managing endowment and operating funds on behalf of the eleven member universities that invest with the USM Foundation Investment Office and six external nonprofit institutions. Prior to that, Michael served as a Senior Research Associate at Cambridge Associates. He started his career with KPMG.
Michael serves on the investment committees of Blue Haven Initiative, France-Merrick Foundation, Georgetown Preparatory School, and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. He has served as an investment-project-related advisor to various other nonprofit entities including the Big East Conference and the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System. He has served as a board member for the CFA Society of Washington and as an advisory board member for the No Greater Sacrifice Foundation. Michael holds a B.A. in philosophy from Fairfield University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He earned a master’s degree from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University.
