Investing Across Asset Classes

Mission

To commit minds to inquiry, hearts to compassion and joy, and lives to the service of humanity

- Inspired by the mission statement of New Trier High School

Strategy

With a vision of generating positive, systemic change and enduring generational impact, Ian and Liesel founded a family office to advance their mission. The team strategically deploys diverse forms of capital to address social and environmental challenges, while also maintaining an unwavering commitment to investment excellence and cultivating leadership to effect transformative change.

As one of the first family offices created with impact investing as its primary mission and focus, Blue Haven seeks market rates of financial return on its investments as well as maximum social and environmental impact. We take a total portfolio approach to managing investments across asset classes, applying rigorous portfolio-management principles as part of our investment strategy.

When investing directly into companies, the team seeks to put capital to work in highly productive ways: helping mission-driven projects and companies achieve scale, supporting entrepreneurs whose innovations spur change, and partnering with other investors to accelerate economic progress. In addition to funding early-stage businesses, Blue Haven also invests through best-in-class third-party managers and makes investment decisions appropriate to each asset class.

As a family office, we’re fortunate to have the flexibility to deploy different capital tools across the returns continuum. And since we don’t believe markets can solve everything, we use philanthropy, policy and advocacy, partnership, and coalition building to maximize our impact.
